Dermarolling On Face: The Science Behind:

micro needling on face

There are dermarolling fans all over the world, shaping their skin in their desired way. It is famous among people with acne scars, stretch marks, and of course our anti-age netizens. Dermarolling is a simple non-invasive technique of rejuvenating your skin that is performed by a device with on it called a dermaroller. The device is rolled or glided on the skin which causes minute injuries on the surface of the skin. The depth of injuries caused depends upon the size of the needles used.

The science behind this treatment is that the injuries that are caused by the dermaroller activates the body’s natural healing system and the blood flow to the area is increased which carries growth factors, proteins (collagen and elastin) and essential nutrients with it. All of these processes in turn increases the cell turnover which allows the healing of the skin. The newly produced skin looks fresh and rejuvenated. Although this procedure seems kind of frightening, it is pretty safe if used carefully. It is found to be therapeutically effective for many skin conditions that explain the reason behind its immense popularity.

What Is The Dermarolling Aftercare?

Your skin after dermarolling will look irritated, red, and dry with some bloodstains, which is completely normal. To reduce the side effects associated with dermarolling and maximize the benefits, you need to follow some tips and guidelines regarding post-dermarolling skincare. These guidelines are given below:

HYDRATE YOUR SKIN:

One of the foremost things to do immediately after dermarolling is to hydrate your skin. Your skin will be really dry and it will definitely be craving for moisture know what would be the first thoughts that come into your mind, after consciously letting your skin being pricked by a dermaroller. Me, as a ‘’Cleanliness Rules Germaphobes’ Lives’’ proponent, would just want to wash my face and get rid of all the bloodstains and dead skin off my face. No? Just do dermarolling and you will know what I am saying. However, it shouldn’t be done like that. Let us find out why?

What can I use for hydrating my skin?

You can use a serum or lotion containing hyaluronic acid because it is one of the topmost moisturizing ingredients out there. You can also use ceramide containing products like Cetaphil, CeraVe, and Simple.

WASHING YOUR FACE:

Typically, we recommend our clients to wait for few hours to NOT wash your face since we have applied growth factors and other healing serums into the skin following dermarolling, we want to give those products time to penetrate and work. We too advise patients not to exercise following their procedure. Another reason for not washing your face right away is that your skin is open after derma rolling and unsterilized tepid water could introduce bacteria and other things during the healing process.

Do I wash my face after dermarolling?

We usually recommend waiting 6 hours after treatment before washing your face. Although, you may be guided with different aftercare instructions, though at that point you should be okay! it is best if you leave the serum on the skin to be absorbed because your skin has tiny perforations and it will quickly absorb the serum on top of your skin. During the 6 hour waiting period, you must stay indoors to avoid any sun exposure because you will not have any sunscreen on to protect your skin (if you having a derma rolling session outside, use a hat or scarf to cover your face). Once 6 hours have passed, you can wash your face with a gentle cleanser and some lukewarm water. This will help to remove those traces of dried blood too!

NOURISH YOUR SKIN:

After cleaning your face, let it air dry. Apply skin nourishing products on the skin which will boost the healing process.

What skin nourishing products can I apply?

You can use serums with vitamin E, vitamin C, copper peptides, ferulic acid, hyaluronic acid, etc.
