Makeup After Microneedling

Can You Wear Makeup After Microneedling?

Although the temptation is great, putting on makeup too soon after surgery can cause an infection or slow the healing process. We get it. You are a woman and you want to get back to your makeup and skincare routine after doing microneedling on your face. Although the temptation is great, putting on makeup too soon after microneedling is not a good idea. As we know it’s an invasive and painful (a little bit) procedure, it can be clearly seen on the face that you have microneedling done. Despite the pain, it delivers some pretty great results. There’s a saying ‘’no pain, no gain’’ but I think most people want to get the results of microneedling and do not want to advertise to everyone that they’ve had the procedure. That’s when the makeup comes to their rescue.

Makeup, an important part of boosting self confidence, because it can hide any imperfections you may have. But when it comes to let your skin recover from a microneedling session, you will need to stay away from makeup for a few days. If you are one of those people that can’t live without makeup, below is a quick guide to how to apply makeup after microneedling in a way that will make you look presentable yet won’t hinder the results.

Your Skin Condition After Microneedling:

After your microneedling session, your skin will experience some side effects from the procedure. These side effects include having irritated and red skin. Your skin acts like a sponge-it will absorb anything you will apply. Your pores are also open. Makeup products are made up of comedogenic ingredients. So by applying makeup on your skin after microneedling your pores will get clogged, resulting in infection. I know we are tempted to put some foundation to cover your redness, concealer to hide other imperfections, but let your skin breath and damaged skin to get all healed.

How Soon After Microneedling Can I Begin To Wear Makeup Again?

After your skin is damaged, it will need atleast 48 to 72 hours to get healed superficially. You will have to wait 2 to 3 days to begin wearing makeup again. So, take a few days off from your makeup and skincare routine, and go natural!

Wait about 3 days before wearing makeup

Everyone’s skin and body are different. How quickly your skin heals depends upon your genes. Completely avoid makeup for 24 hours. By then, your open skin will be healed. You can apply a gentle moisturizer at this time. After 3 days, you can apply light makeup.

What makeup to use:

After your skin is healed, you can apply some lightweight makeup with hypoallergenic and mild ingredients. You must use a lot of moisturizer before applying makeup. Make sure the moisturizer has completely penetrated the skin (your face should be dry) before doing the next step. You can also use a hydration spray that uses all-natural ingredients to calm, nourish, and hydrate skin. Then, the step is to choose a lightweight, breathable powder foundation that can give you enough coverage. You can also use a mineral liquid foundation if you don’t enjoy using powder on your face. As for the style of makeup you choose to wear, you may want to go for a look that’s more on the natural side.

A lipstick, a hint of blush, mascara and eyeliner can be enough to lightly enhance your feature and look confident without looking too bold.

If you love bold looks, pick a bright or deep lipstick. Highlight you eyes with a bold mascara and a winged liner.
