Dermaroller For Better Hair Growth

It is really depressing to see your hair fall out when combing. You may feel like the end of the world. You may feel so stressed like it is the end of the world. One of the potential treatments is using a dermaroller for hair.

And it’s not about aging now. About 30% of young women under 30 experience hair loss.

Hair loss, also known as alopecia in medical terms, can be caused by a number of reasons. Many doctors blame it on stress, but other lifestyle factors such as hormonal issues, aging, diet and pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) can also be a leading cause.

And while hair growth products are very easy to find, there aren’t many products for treating hair loss. One of the potential hair loss treatments includes minoxidil. But it should only be taken on a dermatologist prescription. Other than that, there are so many options out there, such as creams, sprays, laser therapies, and yes, home remedies, etc.

There’s one more treatment that has been trending for a while that’s is dermarolling! Let’s find out what is a dermaroller and how can we use a dermaroller for hair?

Dermaroller:

A dermaroller is a cylinder roller covered with microneedles that are made up of stainless steel or titanium. The needles when rolled on the skin cause micro-injuries into the skin. The needles penetrate just deep enough in the dermis to stimulate the production of new cells and boost circulation without causing much pain or damage to the skin. It generally increases the production of collagen and elastin.

Other than collagen production in the skin, dermarolling is also thought to induce stem cells in the hair follicles that may lead to hair growth. When rolled across your scalp, creates small pricks onto the surface of the scalp which stimulates blood circulation to that area and flooding it with inflammatory and wound-healing molecules, such as growth factors. It also increases essential nutrients to your follicles, all of this resulting in new hair growth. It helps people with baldness (androgenic alopecia), alopecia areata (hair falling out), or alopecia totalis (complete hair loss).

What size of dermaroller should you use for hair loss?

The only difference between all of the dermarollers is the size of the needle. There are many sizes to choose but usually, these sizes are mostly used: 0.15 mm, 0.25 mm, 0.5 mm. 0.75 mm, 1.0 mm, 1.5 mm.

Smaller needles (0.15 – 0.25 mm) are mostly used for boosting the absorption of topical scalp products. They are best used alongside with hair growth promoting products such as minoxidil. And despite the fact that some patients worry about pain or bleeding, that does not occur with these sizes. It can be safely used at home. Use this once a week.

Longer needles dermarollers (0.5 – 1.5 mm) boosts the production of endothelial growth factors for hair. These dermarollers are more effective than the smaller ones because they penetrate well deep down the dermis. They are specifically effective for hair growth. It should be used for 1-3 weeks.

Smaller needles dermaroller is mostly for everyday use. Whereas longer needles should be used every other week.

How to use dermaroller for hair?

1: Shower and wash your scalp and hair with an exfoliating shampoo to lift away excess dirt and debris, including dead skin cells on the scalp’s surface.

2: Choose the appropriate needle size according to your needs. It’s better to use smaller sizes first then go for larger ones. But research says that a 1.5 mm needle is the most effectively used to treat hair loss. This is because the hair follicles sit within the dermis between 1-2 millimeters deep, just as the penetration depth of the 1.5 needle length is.

3: After you have washed up, you will want to disinfect your dermaroller by spritzing some rubbing alcohol across the needle-covered barrel.

4: Detangle and gently comb through your hair first with a wide-tooth comb.

5: Now start rolling the device onto your scalp 4 to 5 times in one direction.

6: Clean your derma roller right after you are done using it. You can also apply your hair care products right after you use the device.

NOTE: You can also use hair care products that will promote healthy hair growth like minoxidil. You want to nourish those hair follicles in your scalp to grow the healthiest hair possible for you.
